Legal Aid Society
Ward Oliver is a Supervising Attorney with the Immigration Law Unit and Criminal Defense Practice of the Legal Aid Society in New York City (legal-aid.org). In addition to advising criminal defense lawyers regarding the immigration consequences of arrests and convictions, he has litigated removal cases before the immigration courts, Board of Immigration Appeals and federal courts. He has also litigated, acted as a consultant, and appeared as an expert witness in post-conviction ineffective assistance of counsel proceedings. Prior to joining the ILU, he worked as a public defender in Manhattan, the Bronx and upstate New York, where he represented clients in criminal trials and appeals. He was also a staff attorney for Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York and a volunteer lawyer for the Louisiana Capital Defense Project.
